Bert is an Intellectual Property Attorney specializing in issues related to software and software-based companies. He performs invention harvesting, inventor counseling as well as advanced preparation on prosecution. He currently performs patent preparation and prosecution for a large telecommunications firm as well as provides intellectual property counseling and patent portfolio development services for several advanced technology startups. He joined the firm in the Summer of 2020.
Bert focuses his practice on advanced patent preparation and prosecution, due diligence matters, infringement and validity opinions, and portfolio analysis. He represents clients in a wide range of technology areas, including virtualization and cloud computing, payment processing, augmented and virtual reality, as well as various other software applications and business methods.
Prior to joining Han Santos, Bert worked as an associate at a large nationwide law firm, where he counseled several Fortune 500 companies with their Intellectual Property needs, including providing portfolio development counsel for a large national retailer. However, he started his career outside the field of law. Bert was a software developer in the Aerospace industry for over 5 years, where he developed code for 3D modeling software.
During law school, Bert interned with Amazon’s Intellectual Property group, where he worked on patent acquisitions and licensing, as well as infringement analysis.
Bert holds an MBA, in addition to his undergraduate degree in Computer Science and a Law degree. This rare combination of education in both Computer Science, Law, and Business Administration enables him to combine technical ability and business savvy to supply superior counseling.
